The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL side.
Her exit from Munich was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United appear to be building momentum.
Recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional activity:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
