Operations Recommence at Scotland's Busiest Airport After Major ATC System Failure

An IT issue at the airport's ATC meant no planes could enter or leave the airport.

Flight operations have resumed at Scotland's primary international airport following a substantial air traffic control outage halted all operations.

Every arrival and departure were stopped after an systems problem that occurred at about 08:30.

Some passengers reported being stuck in aircraft on the tarmac as the outage continued.

Services Recommence with Continued Disruption

Officials announced at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

However, considerable delays are likely to affect schedules. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been cancelled, with numerous other services experiencing delays.

A spokesperson had earlier anticipated that dozens of flights could be affected.

"Flyers are asked to contact their airlines for the most up-to-date details on their specific flights," officials reiterated.

Root of the Disruption

The problem was traced to the widespread suspension to an technical fault with its ATC service provider.

Travelers continue to be advised to check the status of their trip before departing to the hub as residual delays are cleared.
