Jude Bellingham Must Drop the Nonsense to Secure a Key Place In Tuchel.

For Bellingham to wants to force his way once again into the English strongest squad, it would be smart to cut out the dramatics. His response upon realizing that the substitute board was being shown after an evening of mixed performance in the match against Albania was not good enough.

"I don’t want to blow it out of proportion but I stand by my words 'conduct is crucial' and respect towards the teammates who substitute on," Tuchel said. "Substitutions happen and you must accept them as a player."

There is a lesson for Bellingham. There was no call for a strop. The captain had recently scored to make England leading by two in a meaningless fixture, the game had six minutes to go and Bellingham, following an inconsistent display, received a caution for a foul on the Albanian striker. This was hardly a debatable decision. In fact it would have been foolish for Tuchel to keep Bellingham on the pitch considering there was a chance the midfielder would rule himself out of the opening game of the tournament by picking up a second caution.

Drawing Attention to Himself

But Bellingham turned the spotlight on himself. It was impossible to miss the player's annoyance upon understanding that he would be substituted for another player. He flung his arms in the air and while he exchanged a handshake while heading to the touchline it was obvious that the manager was displeased.

This is the challenge facing Bellingham. He praised Rashford for sending in the ball for Harry Kane to nod home the team's second, but everything else was harmful to his cause. It's not like complaining was going to change Tuchel’s mind. The German has repeatedly emphasized following squad protocols and the necessity of showing proper conduct.

Facing Examination

The midfielder, not included in the team last month, has faced close inspection upon his return to the squad in the current camp. Practically he was being assessed and his actions haven't benefited him through his behavior to his substitution as the side wrapped up a flawless qualification run by seeing off a feisty challenge from Albania.

The Coach's Plan

It means opinions are divided on how the squad operate most effectively with Bellingham in the team. What we saw was not definitive. Some new ideas were tested from Tuchel at the start. He has given England a clear system lately, employing a No 6, a box-to-box player, a No 10 and dedicated wide players, but it felt different in this match. Quansah was given his first cap, the midfielder started for the first time internationally and the positioning of Stones as a part-time midfielder created a similar look to the Manchester club's historic treble-winning side.

Mixed Performance

Bellingham had ups and downs. He created an opportunity for Eberechi Eze during the second half but frequently appeared trying too hard. There were a lot of hurried and errant passes. A pointless clash with a rival player in the early stages. England's play was messy for much of the second half. An opportunity for Albania came after Bellingham squandered possession. The yellow card was shown after he lost the ball by Broja and committed a foul on the former Chelsea striker.

Substitutes Decide

Ultimately the squad's strength made the difference. Tuchel introduced Foden, who looked more comfortable to the spot occupied by Bellingham during the first half, and the Arsenal winger. In time Saka delivered a corner for the captain to break the deadlock. It was a reminder that dead-ball situations will play a key role in the upcoming tournament.

Connection Remains

Still, though, Bellingham was the story. The quality of the winger's delivery for Kane's goal was a little lost due to the fuss of the player change. At the end, all eyes were on him. Tuchel walked up behind him and guided the Real Madrid midfielder to acknowledge the away supporters. Their connection is not broken. Tuchel hasn't decided to discard him at this stage. However, whether Tuchel is inclined to offer him a starring role remains in doubt.
