Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been earned on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his maiden championship for over two years with success over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a former number one, has endured a difficult period, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and struggles with his service game in specific - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally splitting with former mentor Cervara.

Now working with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has gradually advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden trophy after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface since spring of the previous year.

Victory also indicates he has achieved twenty-one championships at 21 distinct competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my both daughters simultaneously, so to secure a championship is really nice," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my child her name, because the first title I won when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his previous six championship matches, including in the German tournament previously this season.

The player's defensive strategy and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had led observers to doubt if his skill to compete at the top level was concluded.

However the player has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and play positively, supported by an enhanced service.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, taking four of the final five points to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged break points in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his initial professional victory, seized the initiative to force a decider.

The opponent rescued 4 early break points in a tight final set before the Russian broke to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched the win with a point at the net area, with his opponent failing to control a volley after a lengthy match.
