A Heap of Anime Updates Arrived During the Holidays
The Christmas holidays provide a multitude of pursuits far superior than scanning the updates: unwrapping gifts, getting stuffed on holiday treats, and using meditation skills to refrain from snapping at loved ones. Hopefully you managed to do all these things and more. However, the entertainment world never sleeps, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Many thrilling developments came out over the break, and should you didn't see a few, here is a compilation of the most exciting bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Will Continue (By 2027)
Truly the biggest piece of news, the notorious troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man failed to halt the series' continuation. The show will come back with a subsequent part in 2027—so far away they could have called it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will remain in charge. At least this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the beginning, which could be taken as a positive development. However, the key visual for the new episodes is identical to the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This leads one to believe that, by now, they could be teasing the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has forged a standing for being an top-tier animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the exceptional quality of its productions but for the fair treatment of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not produced an anime adapted from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, possibly the most iconic magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved widespread acclaim when it first appeared in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a lengthy break due to the mangaka's health issues. When it came back with a reduced workload, the series showed it still retained the fans' affection and enthusiasm, and now fans are ecstatic about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Season 6 Will Get a Sequel Currently in Production
Kingdom is the highly popular, epic Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only recently got an English localization, but the anime has been running for years, and its sixth season was yet another stellar entry. Apparently that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been announced as in production, and it will probably air in 2026.
Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
A further studio famous for the artistic merit of its work, Science Saru has delivered masterpieces of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an prominent woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and intriguing visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my must-watch list.
The Tougen Anki Series Will Return With a Second Season
Immediately following the release of its twenty-fourth episode, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be getting a sequel. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm premiere date has yet to be revealed.
